Weekend Update

Dear Resident,

Marlboro Animal Control reminds residents to license your pets before the late fee begins on May 1.  Pet licenses can be completed in person, via mail or on line.  Please see ‘Public Safety’ below for more. 

There have been bear sightings in Marlboro and surrounding towns.  Generally, bears are just passing through and are wary of humans.  Please read the letter sent earlier this week on how to ensure you are not accidentally providing food for bears, steps to take to keep bears away and what to do should an unlikely encounter occur.  MORE

NOTICES

Spring Clean-Up/Bulk Pick-up and Brush collection begins by Zone April 23.  Please adhere to the regulations to ensure safety for pedestrians, vehicles and the workers collecting the bulk pickup.  See the letter sent earlier this week for dates and details.  HERE

Second Quarter Property Taxes Due - Second quarter property taxes must be received by Wednesday, May 10th to avoid interest. Note that interest charges on payments made after the grace period are calculated back to the May 1st due date. The Tax Collector’s office will have extended hours on Wednesday, May 10th from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. A drop box is located in the vestibule of Town Hall and is available 24/7. All payments left in the drop box by 8:00 pm on May 10th will be credited that day and will not be subject to interest. PUBLIC SAFETY - UPDATE

By working together, we are making a difference and reducing successful vehicle thefts. Please remember to lock your car doors, take the key fobs inside, remove garage door openers, lock your house doors/windows and set alarms.  If you have not yet done so request an ‘I Took the Pledge’ lawn sign and download the ‘Neighbors’ app.  Most importantly, if you see anything out of place or suspicious call the police at 732-536-0100.  For crimes in progress dial 911.  To read more about how we, as a community, are working together to keep our homes and families safe: https://www.marlboro-nj.gov/citizen-reporting-initiative

Pet Licenses Due – All dogs and cats must be licensed each calendar year for all pets 6 months and older.  New pets can be licensed when adopted.  Late fees begin May 1 and are $15 per pet plus the registration fee. Licensing pets means that the police are better able to reunite you and your lost pet before they are sent to the SPCA for boarding and redemption fees are levied.  Additionally, it helps ensure rabies vaccine are up to date and it’s the law. Alarm Registration open for 2023 – As per code all alarm systems are required to be registered annually with the Marlboro Division of Police.  Registering your alarm system ensures that the police can get in contact with you should there be an emergency or alarm activation at your home.  Renewal or new alarm registration HERE. Check Washing – This scam is a process in which thieves use a chemical formula to remove ink or ‘wash’ the check they steal out of mailboxes. PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

Recreation Events for all ages. Youth, adult and adult over 60 all have programs for varied interests.   New programs are added regularly.  See recreation program letter HERE.  

Save the Date for the Big Rig Rally on Saturday, May 6.  This event is free for Marlboro Residents and no registration is required.  See the recreation program letter above for details.

Summer employment Opportunities - Marlboro Swim Club is hiring for the following positions! Lifeguards, Gate attendant, Front desk, EMTs, Concession Stand and Cooks. APPLICATION

Lifeguard Certification Classes - Summer Job needed? Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or Recertification) available at the Marlboro Swim Club. You do not have to be a swim club member to take the class.  Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prerequisites: Must be age 15 by end of class.  FLYER

Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) – Training begins April 25.  Register now! The Marlboro Township Police Department is currently seeking volunteers to serve on the DVRT.  In affiliation with 180 Turning Lives Around (180), and with the assistance of the response team volunteers, the Marlboro Police Department continues to make this free, 24/7 confidential service available to victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of a highly emotional and traumatic experience. First Aid Squads Need You! Give back to your community and learn invaluable life skills.   Marlboro and Morganville First Aid Squads offer free EMT certification and driver training to recruits, and active membership also qualifies volunteers for discounts on various Township fees and memberships and an annual contribution towards an individual retirement-type program.  Want to learn more? Commuter Parking: The annual renewal process is complete and new registrations are now being accepted. Parking spots are available at Union Hill, Texas Road (Costco) and Cambridge Square (Home Depot) commuter parking lots. Manalapan residents may apply at Cambridge Square (across the street from the Union Hill) or at the Texas Road commuter lot. For non-residents may apply for the Texas Road commuter lot. Fire Hydrant Flushing:

Marlboro Township Water Utility annual hydrant flushing continues between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.  Hydrant flushing is a part of routine maintenance to remove sediment and to ensure that hydrants are in working order.  Lower pressure and slight discoloration is normal when flushing is being done in your area and does not affect water quality. Simply run cold water until it runs clear.  See HERE for more. 

JCP&L announces helicopter patrols on transmission lines throughout their region beginning on April 26, 2023.  These inspections are anticipated to take approximately four to five days to complete, but as always, work is weather dependent, and completion could be impeded by any post-storm or outage-related patrols that may occur.  The helicopter to be used for these patrols is Blue Bell 2-6 Jet Ranger, Tail number – N719CB.

COVID-19 Ratepayer Relief Measures – Measures are in place to provide relief to ratepayers experiencing economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The NJ Department of Community Affairs has developed a low income household water assistance program.  Please review the letter from the Marlboro Water Utility HERE.

Marlboro Shade Tree Commission will be celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day at our Community Garden (82 Tennent Road) next Saturday, April 29. The Girl Scouts will fulfill their Tree Pledge for Earth Day beginning at 9:15am and at 10am we will have a ceremonial a tree planting ceremony and a Mayoral Proclamation.  All are welcome.
