STORM UPDATE #2
July 23, 2019 –1:00pm

Dear Residents,

I continue to be in contact with JCP&L and they have confirmed that repair trucks are actively working in Marlboro Township. Last night we reported 130,000 outages in Monmouth County with 10,000 in Marlboro. Currently, it has reduced to 89,000 county-wide and 6,000 in Marlboro. We are waiting for JCP&L to announce estimated repair times. In the meantime, please note the following:

1. JCPL will continue to assess damage today and will have specific Estimated Times of Repair by Wed morning;
2. There are repair trucks in our area so some may see power restored in the next 24 hours (some already have);
3. Residents should plan for a multiday outage according to JCPL (we should have specifics by tomorrow morning);
4. JCPL is first repairing critical sites including hospitals, water companies, etc. as well as addressing public safety issues such as downed wires. They will then move to residential communities.
5. JCPL has called in additional resources to assist in repairs.
6. JCP&L has activated its free ice and water plan. The nearest location is available at the Acme on Route 9 in Old Bridge. They are planning on adding locations and we will update residents.

I have directed Town Hall to remain open as a cooling and charging station until further notice. Thank you to the Marlboro CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) for staffing the facility. Town Hall phone service is inconsistent, but all internet operations are functioning. A list of township email addresses can be found HERE.

It bears repeating that the Office of Emergency Management reminds residents that debris may not be placed in the roadway or in any Town right-of-way. It causes flooding and is a hazard to pedestrians and motor vehicles.

The Police can be contacted at 732-536-0100. Emergencies dial 911. Please do not contact the Police to ask about power outage restoration times. They do not have access to that information, and it is imperative that their lines stay open for emergencies.

As JCP&L provides estimated times of restoration, we will update our residents. Please visit http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/resident-communications.html to register for any or all of our communication options.
Please check on your neighbors and friends, especially those who may have special needs or are elderly. We will update you as we have more information.

Mayor Jon Hornik
