Winter Storm Jonas Update #4
Saturday - 1/23/2016 - 11:30AM
Dear Residents:
We continue to be under a Blizzard Warning until 6am Sunday morning. Heavy snow, strong winds and drifting are expected. As of this time, snow accumulation predictions are 16 to 24 inches. The Governor has issued a State of Emergency. We urge everyone to stay home and off the roads and allow the Police, Department of Public Works (DPW) and First Responders clear access to the roads.
We remind you that during blizzard conditions, blowing winds cause roads to get recovered with snow very quickly and may appear as if they have not yet been plowed. Please be assured that DPW pre-treated the roads prior to the snow, has been plowing since 3am and has already made one complete pass on our 200 miles of roads. DPW will continue to plow during and following the storm. Please see Page 13 of your Recycling Calendar for Snow Removal Facts and Guidelines.
The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has suspended all curbside brush pickup immediately, effective until further notice. The Township Recycling Yard is closed today. Residents are reminded, per Township ordinance, that vehicles and all other items, including portable basketball hoops, must be removed from the roadways when the road is snow covered. This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and reduces the likelihood of damage to vehicles. Please check with your private garbage company for trash pickup suspensions. Finally, please be mindful to clear snow from around fire hydrants so that they are accessible to emergency personnel should the need arises.
In the event of a prolonged power outage, the Township is prepared to provide for warming and charging stations for residents in need at the Township Municipal facilities. Please contact the Office of Emergency Management at (732) 536-0100 should the need arise. Additional information will be provided as needed.
Also, please take all necessary precautions when operating household generators. FEMA has provided important guidance concerning generator use which may be found at https://www.fema.gov/news-release/2006/03/18/important-tips-ensure-safety-when-using-generators.
Please review the Surviving the Snow brochure in the centerfold of your DPW Recycling Calendar or on line at 'Surviving the Snow'. This blizzard brings with it high winds and a chance of power outages. Report outages directly to JCP&L using one of their many methods available. You may call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or visit www.firstenergycorp.com to explore the many ways to report an outage, including Facebook and text messaging. For easier reporting, please familiarize yourself with the methods and register in advance of a power outage
Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity. Extra caution should be used if downed lines are tangled in trees or other debris. The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.
You can find us on FaceBook and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page. We will continue to update the public through social media, email, and reverse 9-1-1.
Please stay safe, off the roads, make sure your cell phones are charged and your flashlight has fresh batteries. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
