Coronavirus Update #10

Dear Resident,

Yesterday, I put into place restrictions on Marlboro restaurants. As expected, Governor Murphy announced state expanded restrictions for restaurants, businesses, and residents. Please note the following:
1. All schools, must be closed by Wednesday, March 18 for an indefinite period. The expectation is for at least two weeks with the possibility of it being significantly longer. Public and private K-12, pre-K, and all institutions of higher learned are included. As of now day care centers may remain open at their discretion.
2. Beginning at 8pm tonight all gatherings of more than 50 people are banned. This is now mandatory.
3. As of 8pm tonight until further notice, restaurants and bars will be closed for in-store dining but will be able to provide take out or delivery only.
4. Liquor establishments that do not service food are closed effective at 8pm tonight.
5. Casinos, racetracks, theaters, gyms and are closed as of 8pm tonight.
6. All non-essential businesses will be closed each night at 8pm until further notice but may be open during their normal business hours during the day as long as they limit their occupancy a maximum of 50 occupants.
• Essential businesses which are necessary for the public’s health, safety, and welfare – like supermarkets and grocery stores, pharmacies, medical offices, and gas stations may remain open past 8:00 PM.
7. NJ Motor Vehicle Commission agencies and road testing facilities are closed with an anticipated re-opening of March 30, 2020. Driver licenses, non-driver IDs, vehicle registrations, and inspections stickers, expiring before May 31 have an automatic two-month extension. Most transactions can be processed on-line at www.NJMVC.gov
8. Starting tonight, all non-essential and non-emergency travel in New Jersey is strongly discouraged between the hours of 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. This will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.
9. The National Guard will be mobilized and moved to ready posture.

My office, along with the Local Emergency Planning Council and the Town Council, we are working on putting together a program for our vulnerable residents in town. This is for elderly, co-morbid, immunosuppressed, immunocompromised, or other at-risk residents. Food can be ordered on line from Shoprite https://shop.shoprite.com/store/dc61725 and Food Emporium has an email service This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (You will need to include your credit card information in the email). For those that are able to shop in person, Food Emporium will have a "Senior-Only" Shopping hour from 7:00 - 8:00 AM on Thursday morning.

The township and the Board of Education will arrange for vehicles to pick up your order and drop it off by your front door so you can stay in self quarantine and social distance and not put yourself at risk.
We will also pick up and deliver your medications from one of the in-town pharmacies (Marlboro Village Pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens, etc.)

This is for the at-risk community in our town. If you take wish to take advantage of this program, please email Jeff Cantor at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to be added to the delivery schedule. It is expected that deliveries will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the day.

In addition, the Mayor’s office has been in contact with local grocery stores and has reached out to most restaurants in Marlboro to ensure that food services will remain open and available during this period of ‘Social Distancing’. There is no issue with obtaining food or necessities at this time. It is important for us to remain calm but vigilant as we all do our part to defeat coronavirus.

As we receive additional and more detailed information from local food establishments including the availability of pick-up and delivery service within our community, we will be sharing this information with the public.
