SUBJECT: Busing to Marlboro High School RESTORED
Dear Resident,
I am pleased to announce that Governor Murphy has just signed a bill that restores busing for all Marlboro High School students. As I stated when I testified in Trenton on June 20, busing for our kids is not just some discretionary ‘courtesy’ program, but an urgent matter of public safety. You can read the Senate testimony letter HERE.
As Mayor, I have no formal governmental role in our school districts but I will continue to be a strong advocate for our residents’ safety, quality of life and education. I want to thank Assembly Speaker Coughlin and Senators Gopal and O’Scanlon for their steadfast support in ensuring that this bill made its way to the Governor’s desk.
The Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) is a model of what a school district should be, and what others should be striving for. FRHSD reduces costs to taxpayers by sharing administration costs across six towns, and at the same time regularly boasts some of the highest student achievement scores in the State. This bill not only ensures our kids get to and from school safely but encourages other school districts to adopt FRHSD’s model of efficiency.
I thank you for your patience, assistance and support in making our case to the State. As both a parent of a high school student, and as Mayor, I am relieved that we can end the summer season with the concern of student transportation for our kids behind us.
Yours in community,
Mayor Jon Hornik
